Abstract: This is the first in a series of Guidelines which address various operational issues which arise in the course of domestic arbitrations. All potential arbitrators, whether members of Domestic panels or not, should review them carefully and persons approached to act as arbitrators should abide by them as far as possible, paying regard to the particular circumstances of each case. These Guidelines apply whether you are approached by the parties or their advisors or by the Centre as appointing authority. Please read them carefully and if you have any questions please contact the Registrar at the Malta Arbitration Centre. These Guidelines apply mutatis mutandis to arbitral tribunals made up of three arbitrators, in which case the primary functions will be undertaken by the person approached to be the presiding arbitrator. They shall also apply to the Registrar when he is acting under Rule 28, and this until the arbitrator is appointed or the arbitral tribunal is fully constituted. References to the "Act" are to the Arbitration Act, 1996 and to the "Rules" are to the Arbitration Rules 2000, as these may be amended from time to time. The Malta Arbitration Centre is referred to as the "Centre".
