The aim of the project is to design and construct an experimental rig for the Liquid Jet Gas Pump followed by a series of tests, which enable determination of optimum design parameters and operating conditions. A visual observation of the mixing process in the throat was made, and the position of the mixing zone for optimum performance was determined. This was found to be dependent on the back pressure and on the length of the mixing tube and affected the jet breakup and hence the air entrainment. Effects of throat length, nozzle/throat area ratio (0.2 - 0.45), nozzle design, nozzle-to- throat spacing and inlet pressure were investigated. Optimum throat lengths and optimum nozzle/throat area ratios were found, and the corresponding efficiencies were of 35 percent. Optimum throat lengths were found to be linearly related to the nozzle-to throat area ratio. The results obtained in this study permit design of efficient liquid jet gas pumps.en_GB
