Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate how Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers of state primary schools make use of delegation in order to manage themselves and lead others. • Chapter 1 deals with delegation in general. • Chapter 2 explores in detail, the roles of Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers (of Maltese Government Primary Schools) when delegating; the skills of delegation and how this should take place step by step; why and when Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers delegate along with what makes delegation a success or a failure. • Chapter 3 examines the methodology and provides a detailed analysis and interpretation of both the interviews carried out with seven Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers and the delegation daily log.
