Abstract: | Back in 1992, in an article written for this review, Prof. Peter Paul Zerafa pointed out three major instances in which the Western mind achieved a termporary equilibrium between faith and reason. The author referred to these as: a) the Jewish and early Christian response, formulated by Philo of Alexandria and the Apologetes; b) the Augustinian compromise, brought forward by the Bishop of Hippo; and c) the Thomistic synthesis as expounded by Thomas Aquinas |
