Abstract: At present, the CNC inventory at the Engineering Department's Workshop comprises of the Micromaster 280 CNC Lathe and the Bridgeport Milling Machine, together with a desktop programmer for the Micromaster. The idea behind this project was proposed by Mr. F. Farrugia, after the latter contacted Denford Machine Tools Ltd. as regards the availability of a simulation and program verification system to be used in conjuction with the Micromaster. In fact, program verification using Teel Path Graphics, is not available for the Micromaster. Such software packages, however, can be found cm the Easiturn and Starturn series Turning Centres. Thus, the aim of this software design project is to eliminate the limitations of the present machining centre, imposed by the market, or otherwise. Furthermore, the simulation software design was extended to a 2-D draughting system restricted to axis-symmetrical components. Originally the software package was intended for use on a Televideo Personal Computer. However, due to time inopportunities, the software was designed on a Sinclair Spectrum Plus. Regardless of the limitations imposed by the hardware system, the results obtained were satisfactory and auger well for further future work.
