Citation: Darmanin, L. (1983). Design and construction of a variable speed unit (Bachelor’s dissertation).
Abstract: This work was produced as a final year project for the B. Mechanical Engineering Course. It deals with the design and construction of a variable speed transmission unit. A prototype was actually constructed. The contents of the work do not give a glossary of variable speed transmission but concentrate on the one particular design which was actually developed and manufactured. The principle of the design is not original. However, the actual design produced here was not copied and is as far as the author knows 'original'. The prototype was manufactured completely by the author, aided only by the welcome encouragement of many and the not so welcome, complete disencouragement of one. This work gives an account of how the design was developed, how the requirements to produce an actual working model were met and how the prototype was actually produced and tested.
