| dc.description.abstract | Background: Computed tomographic angiography of the lower limbs is carried out with a fast bolus injection of iodinated contrast medium. 100-150mls of iso-osmolar contrast medium at a rate of 4mls per second are injected via a peripheral vein, using a bolus tracking technique. Apart from allergic reactions, the contrast used is known to have potential adverse renal effects. These vary in severity and include a benign transient rise in creatinine, contrast induced nephropathy and lactic acidosis. | en_GB |
