Abstract: The beauty of mathematics lies in the fact that it furnishes a universal language which characterises in a uniform way processes of quite different physical appearance. Temperature is one such physical process and it is the main intention of this project to bring out the principles underlying its measurement and control. The final result is more or less applicable to all control systems in general. In the design of control systems, the engineer is faced with two main problems; (1) must first form the problem and then express it mathematically. The final local model will then consist of a series of blocks connected by lines. block is termed a transfer function. (ii) formed the necessary transfer functions, he must then simulate them with adequate equipment either mechanically or electrically. In the area of control where the level of sophistication lies between simple loop control up to the level where a digital computer would be employed, there has in the past been a gap in equipment available to the designer. In the first instance the optimal mathematical model that will result, will depend a great deal on experience and theoretical know-how. [...]
