Abstract: The increasing use of non-linear loads such as rectifiers, inverters and cycloconverters almost in every type of power system, is leading to a universal concern about harmonic current distortion and low power factor. Where harmonics are excessive, current and voltage filters are used to suppress these harmonics. The aim of this project was the simulation of typical non-linear loads generating harmonic currents and reducing power factor, in order to examine the harmonic content of current, and the design and simulation of power filters required for power factor correction and harmonic suppression. The simulation software used is the DESIGN CENTER software package, produced by MicroSim Corporation. This software package uses Windows Pspice as the circuit simulator and Probe as the graphical waveform analyzer to view Pspice simulation results.
