Abstract: Everyday life involves achieving required objectives. Control Systems are a means of satisfying these objectives They are present in every facet of life and are often taken for granted. In fact, we ourselves are living examples of control systems. Our body temperature, chemical balance, sensory perception and movement are all part of a delicate but perfect natural control system from which we have lots to learn. Such natural control systems are the product of millions of years of evolution. However, recent times have brought about a vast range of man-made control systems. These are now an essential part of our lives without which the fast rhythm of modern society would be impossible to maintain. Domestic control systems are now abundant as are control systems in all sectors of industry. Automatic toasters, washing-machines, dryers, heating systems are now found in almost every Maltese household. Electronic leisure equipment, such as televisions, video cassette recorders, compact disc players employ automatic electronic controls and are becoming unacceptable unless remotely controlled. [...]
