Abstract: A feasibility study has been carried out on a five storey building regarding energy savings obtained from various lighting systems. Due to our latitude, the implementation of daylighting systems together with electric lighting has been analysed. The potential of this integration develops in an improved lighting impact and hence improves the working conditions. By analysing the various elements that a luminaire is composed of, maximum utility can be obtained if it is used in the right place. The control gear is another energy saving device which through the help of electronics has been improved considerably. High frequency ballasts are used in this design and they stand up to their reputation as energy savers. With efficient gear, suitable light sources help in reducing running costs where together with a cost analysis an economic evaluation is carried out.
