Abstract: Teletext is one of the most wide-spread and efficient information services. It enables anyone to have the latest information by just turning on a television set. Such a powerful communication medium offers many opportunities to its service providers. This project is targeted towards hotels, and enables hotel personnel to form a continuous link with their guests. The design is aimed to offer the power of teletext without incurring any significant cost penalty, by making use of already available resources. The system is composed of a computer and the teletext encoder hardware. The former is used to design teletext pages, while the encoder generates a video signal over which this data is conveyed. The system has been successfully implemented and tested. The resulting number of teletext lines per field generated by the system compares well with teletext services currently offered by television stations.
