Abstract: Members of the Association of Valletta Open Market Vendors have unanimously decided to join the Union of United Workers. This decision was made as the market stall vendors felt under threat due to the government’s intention to change their work location. In September 2006, a total of 115 market vendors operating in Valletta, the capital city of Malta, announced that they were joining the Union of United Workers (UHM (https://www.uhm.org.mt /home.aspx)). UHM is a general union which, within its seven sections, includes members from most sectors of the Maltese economy. This decision was made public following an extraordinary general meeting of the Association of Valletta Open Market Vendors (Ghaqda Bejjiegha tal-Monti tal-Belt Valletta), the organisation to which market vendors belonged before joining UHM.
