Abstract: This paper proposes a model for understanding game involvement and immersion on a variety of experiential dimension corresponding to broad categories of game features. The model allows for a distinction to be made between the experiential involvement in games and other media. The paper ends with a proposal to replace the metaphor of immersion with one of (re)incorporation. This re-conceptualisation seeks to replace the uni-directional plunge of player into game space implied by the term immersion with on of simultaneous assimilation of the digital environment and presence to others within it.
