Writing a detailed study of Maltese Parishes is a rather ambitious project; the reason being that besides that each parish has its own history, each locality possesses a certain amount of local traditions, customs and ways of life both civically and Religiously. It was for this reason that I decided to choose my own parish where I reside at present, to write a critical and balanced study of parrochial life. Besides, this parish is one of the newest and youngest of all the sixty-four or so parishes we have in Malta. St. Joseph's Parish Church almost started from scratch.. Thirteen years ago exactly on June 28th, 1962, I came to reside in this new residential area of B'Kara. There were fields all around and several farms. But today, only thirteen years. Later, blocks of flats, maisonettes and villas too, have cropped up. New street names have been given, new residents from several walks of life and from several. other places, have come to reside in this airy part. of Malta. Shops, some one or two clubs, a Parish Church, have cropped up of late. All is still almost brand new and fresh. The residential community in this area of B'Kara is in its great majority, young, mainly married couples. This is why I chose my own parish; not only because it is my own place of residence but also because it is a new area, infused with new blood and new life as well as new ideas. This study is by no means a professional study; it is only an interesting piece of work which I think arouses interest in those who really have Maltese life at heart; those who like religious folklore enriched with some history both of general and of particular interest.en_GB
