Abstract: The objective of this project is to design and develop a wideband RF signal generator with a frequency range of 1 - 200MHz to the following specifications: • output at 50Q • stable output • signal amplitude control • continuously variable frequency range up to VHF band • AM modulation capability In this project, the whole range of frequency is divided into 7 bands, with the possibility of turning on and off the modulation of the output signal. The technique employed in the project to generate the oscillations is by means of the Butler oscillator which offers many advantages in operation over the traditional oscillator configurations. The oscillator output frequency is then quadrupled by means of 2 frequency doubler circuits in series. This project also researches the field of frequency generation and considers various possible techniques for the design of RF signal generators.
