Abstract: Despite evidence for their inaccuracy, agebased weight estimation formulae remain in widespread use [1, 2]. We investigated the accuracy of five age-based weight estimation formulae in children aged 4–14 y in Malta (Argall, Advanced Pediatric Life Support, Best Guess 2 for < 5 y, Best Guess 2 for > 5 y, Luscombe–Owens), using percentage over-/underestimation and percentage accuracy to within 10% (p10) and 20% (p20) of the actual weight as indicators of accuracy. Regression modelling was used to explore alternative models for prediction of weight using age. [excerpt]
