Abstract: | A large collection of miscellaneous papers found at Ms Barbara's former residence in Żabbar and donated to the UM Library through the initiative of Prof Carmen Sammut. This varied collection includes documents relating to Ms Barbara's term as President of the Republic (1982-1987) and her roles as Minister of Education and Culture (1971-1974) and Minister of Labour, Culture and Welfare. In this collection one can find reports and photographs relating to various Commonwealth summits and state visits, inaugural speeches delivered at cultural events, and numerous reports on "bulk buying" agreements with various countries. It also includes correspondence, newspaper cuttings, and minutes of meetings in connection with the doctors' dispute, the private schools issue and Church/State relations. On a more personal note one can find messages of congratulations and letters from well-wishers and material relating to the Stara Planina award conferred on Ms Barbara by the state council of the People's Republic of Bulgaria in 1983. The collection can be consulted at the Archives and Rare Books department. |
