Poverty in Malta today : myth or reality

Abstract

The seventies saw the firm establishment of the welfare state and of its enormous benefits which spread to all sectors of society. Did it however succeed in eliminating poverty or have new forms of poverty emerged? This dissertation, drawing on various sources, shows that poverty in the sense of "exclusion" and "marginalisation" is a reality endured (silently) by hundreds daily. The integration in society of the most vulnerable individualD Dhould bo tho objective of all policy making.
