Abstract: | In this essay, prepared in accordance with the course requirements I tried to give a guideline of how one should start about setting up an information service. I tried to give a practical approach to setting about this task. I find that with the introduction of Information Technology, it is sometimes taken that a software on the computer is enough to help one set up an office. However, I feel that without the necessary knowledge about Records Management, one cannot manage records and the information available in an office efficiently. Special Libraries are increasing in Malta and I believe that the points that I have covered in the second part of my essay give the reader an indication on how to set about starting a special library. In Malta, Records Management and Special Librarianship, as a subject, are only covered in this course. Although there are various books that one might read, the lectures, in this course, given by professionals in all aspects of librarianship give one a considerable knowledge and advice which one does not find in any book. |
