Abstract: | The years 6-12 are quite crucial in a child's life as it is when, one can, say, learns to process information. This starts off when the child begins to read, then progresses to writing which leads to the first steps to compiling material for research. So what part does a library have to play in this development process? In this long essay I will be answering this question and more, such as. What type of books should a library have in order to help to acquire 'proper' reading and information skills? Should a junior school library be restricted to a certain type of literature? Are there books, which hinder a child's progress? And are Information Technology skills vital for this age group? Ultimately my aim is, with this long essay, to create the ideal junior school library, what it should contain in order to equip a child into the world of information. The method of research will include consultation of texts relevant to the subject; also my practical in a private school will also prove to be usefuI as well. |
