The acquisition of materials for Maltese secondary state school libraries

Abstract

The aim of this long essay is to give an account of all the different acquisition policies that were applied within our state schools and throughout the years. This will be done following a review of the local literature that has been written about this subject. Another aspect that I will be examining in this essay is the policy that is being adopted currently in the U.K. This will enable and lead me to give a critical insight of the current situation in Malta. After this overview I attempt to give my own recommendations hoping that these may lead to the improvement of the resources available in our state school libraries and the progression of their professional services in the forthcoming years.
