Abstract: The reader establishes a dialectic with the text from the moment she picks up a book to see whether it is worth reading or not. The clues to gauge this are usually present on the elements found on the cover of the book, for example, the title, the blurb or the descriptor, what Gerard Genette (1987 /1997) in his ‘Paratexts: Thresholds of interpretation’ has defined as the paratext. But does the information present on the cover reflect the information present between the covers? This preliminary study tries to further develop Genette's terminology as well as investigating what relationship exists between the information present on the book cover, with that in between the book cover.
