The geography of the Maltese Islands : a survey of resources

Abstract

Throughout the last two decades the geography of the Maltese Islands has been treated by different writers, both local and foreign, making use of different media to publish their works. The influx of more students reading geography at the University of Malta resulted in the writing of a number of dissertations, the majority of which are based on studies of the Maltese Islands. The advent of electronic information has also left its impact on the subject and a significant amount of information exists in electronic form. This mine of information is very useful to students, teachers and anyone interested in Maltese geography. The need is felt, therefore, for a comprehensive collection of resources dealing with the subject, first of all for potential users to become aware of what already exists, and secondly to make such resources more accessible. The work provides a survey of different library catalogues, and bibliographies, major standard published works, major reference works, dissertations, maps, and electronic resources.
