Abstract: The objective of this study is to compare the Central Bank of Malta information services with those provided by other European Central Bank libraries. To achieve this objective a questionnaire was submitted to a number of libraries operating in these Central Banks. The survey looks at the various aspects and functions of the libraries concerned. The structure of the project is as follows: • The first chapter is dedicated to the functions of Central Bank libraries and to the organisations in which they operate. • The second chapter gives an overview of the Central Bank of Malta Library developments, services offered, equipment and holdings. • The methodology adopted to construct and complete the survey is explained in chapter three. This chapter also highlights the importance of surveys and benchmarks with specific focus on libraries. • Results submitted by the respondents are given in chapter four. The areas surveyed include the collection, budgets, staff, users, services, information technology, policies and statistics. The results are compared with the Central Bank of Malta library position. • Chapter five identifies the areas where the Central Bank of Malta library needs to improve and gives some recommendations. • Chapter six is dedicated to the conclusion. It emerges that the Central Bank of Malta library compares well with the traditional services offered, however there are certain areas where it needs to reengineer itself to remain relevant in this era of electronic revolution.
