Abstract: | The idea behind this long essay is to familiarize readers with the Customs department, the industrial relations therein and with the workers and their trade union representatives. The impact of two classes of workers working in the same department, performing essentially the same kind of work but with different working conditions, will be analysed and its effects on the organizational set-up and industrial relations within the Customs department will be discussed. I will also be shedding some light on the impact of personnel in the Civil Service within the Customs department vis-a-vis the organizational set-up and the industrial relations with the other section of the department- the Customs Class. This discourse will include the relations of all the above with respect also of the relations between the two represented trade unions - the GWU and the UHM, both with each other and with the department. Last but not least, I will also try to tackle the present situation with all its difficulties and make recommendations for the future. |
