| Abstract: | Reaching Għar Dalam by Kalafrana bus or in other way, you may also park just in front, where there is ample space. Entering in the Museum you may enjoy the show cases in which are displayed thousands of fossil bones of mammals. The entrance hall contains ribs of hippopotami. The inner right side showcase contain molars, tusks and ribs of hippopotami. In the small table like showcases, there are samples of sand, gravel and clay which had been brought from the cave. One of the small showcases exhibits the two pieces of jaw bones found in the upper layers of the cave, and the cast of the two molar teeth attributed by Sir ARTHUR KEITH to the Neanderthal man, to which reference is made in this Guide book. The large hall in this Għar Dalam Museum, contains thousand and one of animal fossil bones mounted on plywood boards. The showcases on the right hand side, exhibit deer antlers especially those of the Cervus elaphus barbarus. On the wooden shelves there are glass jars filled with deer and antelope molars, and even jaws of the same kind of animals with teeth still in situ. [excerpt] |
