Family allowances in Malta and their financing

Abstract

Family Allowances as such have not yet been introduced in Malta, but interest in them. has been evident for a number of years. In fact, as far back as 1956/57, as a member of a Study Group of the Catholic Social Guild, under the Rev. Fr. C. Schembri, S.J. I first came in contact with the problem.. At that time, the Guild was preparing a scheme of family Allowances before submitting it to Government. Unfortunately, due to various circumstances 9 the Group never finished its task. However, the work I did as a 1!1ember of that Group has served me as the starting point for my dissertation.
