Abstract: This is a case study of operations involving gas evolutions and other toxic gases during tanker cleaning operations and is essentially a compilation of data relating to the exposure of workers on the decks of vessels during these operations. It is also a study of the dispersion of the gases on the surrounding areas including their transportation and methods of measurement of the concentration of these gases. Risk and exposure minimisation has been highlighted by the use of appropriate respiratory protective equipment and safe working practices.
