Abstract: This study on the cultivation of carrots forms part of my present study and is one of the requirements for the completion of the course for the Diploma in Agriculture. The subject has been analysed from various aspects. The stages of the crop cultivation, land preparation, labour involved in sowing, watering, pest control, harvesting and preparing the crop for marketing, have all been studied and illustrated. An analysis of different soils and the effects on the crop growth were obtained from experienced farmers whom I met while working on their lands. The set backs, common pests and diseases that worry the farmer during the crop growth were also analysed. The financial side of the carrot cultivation, as well as the expenses and profits generated from the crop selling was also taken into account and duly analysed. This work has been made possible by the sincere help of farmers approached on the subject. These farmers who shared all the experience they had about the crop are mainly Mr A.Vella of Mellieha, Mr C.Grech of Mellieha, Mr P.Gauci of Buskett, and Ic-Cirillu from Manikata. All these farmers are experienced in the cultivation of carrots. Their knowledge and experience has proved to be priceless as their experience and first hand information is unlikely to be found in books or papers on the subject.
