Abstract: Emergency Preparedness forms an integral part of the Environment, Health and Safety program at Baxter Ltd. (Malta). It is a continuous process and does not consist of developing written plans only but involves a continuing effort from all stakeholders to improve response capability. The aim and purpose of this study was to assess management commitment with regards to emergency preparedness, to assess the validity of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and to determine the effectiveness of the related training given to employees at Baxter. In this way, the extent of the emergency preparedness at Baxter can be measured. Three different questionnaires were distributed to personnel at different levels in the company structure and the responses were analyzed. The findings show a high level of management's commitment towards Health and Safety. Training levels were found to be quite satisfactory, yet in some areas there is room for improvement for enhanced emergency preparedness.
