Abstract: A number of family friendly measures are available to public sector employees. The Department of Health employees are the highest in availing of the measure that balances the time spend at work and at home, that is the reduced hours measure. Midwives and nurses in Karen Grech Hospital are no exception. This essay identifies the reasons why different family friendly measures are needed and their availability in Malta and around the world. However, the research study explores the reasons, and the effects both at work and at home of reduced hours on midwives and nurses working in Karen Grech Hospital.
