Abstract: The level of unemployment among young persons is of concern in many countries. In Malta as well as in other EU countries, youth unemployment is very high and many are the measures taken by different countries to improve this scenario. The Employment and Training Corporation has various services and two schemes that aim to help and guide youth towards the labour market. The research study will focus on one of the schemes namely the "Job Experience Scheme". The study will explore the positive and negative aspects of the scheme and examine if the scheme is an effective measure or otherwise in helping young persons enter the labour market. Eight participants took part in this research study. Seven of these have many 'O' or/and 'A' level qualifications. Three of the respondents are. today in full-time employment while the rest are still unemployed. The data gathered clearly indicates that the scheme is beneficial for the needs of young persons. The respondents had very relevant comments on how the scheme could be improved to make it more effective. The research illustrate that the scheme is addressing many needs of the participants, however some changes are desired to make the scheme really effective in helping these young persons gain employment.
