Abstract: | The purpose of this research is to identify and acknowledge women's profiles in Malta while on their leisure time by analysing the norms and values of our culture and how are women constraint and expected to have certain behaviour and attitudes to combat social pressure. The research design used was qualitative, semi-structured questionnaire in the form of face-to face interviews to 10 women. The survey was conducted between 18 and 23 April 2001. The respondents were selected by nightclub they attended, whose list was obtained by the VAT Department by request through The University of Malta. The sample used for the analysis consists of a spread of women attending nightclubs in the 25 to 30 age cohort. Main results: The meaning of marriage for 60% of the respondents was stated as being living with the one they love, and the rest was commitment. From the (80%) of women who were not married, (70%) wanted to get married at this stage. The interviewees (90%) agreed with cohabitation before marrying. (90%) say they are able to refuse anything offered to them. This results in high empowerment amongst the respondents. (90%) agreed that women are still seen as the weaker sex. |
