The knowledge and attitudes of the elderly about their used [sic] medicine in Malta

Abstract

Drug use among the elderly can be a real problem. The elderly population is more prone to get adverse drug reactions and side effects. Prescribing for the elderly needs a basic knowledge about the geriatric population and attention for the possible reactions. This study is conducted in Gzira Residential Home for the Elderly This study has two parts. In the first one, all the residents details regarding their medications is documented. On the second part, residents, which were satisfying the entry criteria are interviewed through a structured questionnaire. The aim of this study is to investigate the problems of medication use among the elderly and to see whether this problem exists in Malta.
