Abstract: I was invited by Dr A. E. Azzopardi, the co-ordinator of the Programme of Youth Studies at the University of Malta to join a group of 10 students (referred to as the Gozo study group). The study aims to explore young people's perception on a number of social issues. The research was carried out in collaboration with the OASI Foundation in Gozo, a rehabilitation centre for drug and alcohol abusers. All the data was collected in Gozo and distributed for analysis among ten students at the Programme of Youth Studies. All the students had specific sections from the questionnaire to analyse. This study relates to work and values. The study is focused on Gozo as an island with its differences to Malta, as well as its geographical awakening. Literature review on work and values, both in general and as related to Gozo, was carried out. The data collection and analysis was accomplished through questionnaires, dicussions, interviews and observation. Proposals for further studies based on the results and response rate are included. The findings of the study will include the perception of work and values among youths. A clear picture of Gozitan youth who need more opportunities to be able to stay in their home land and yet live a life just like any other young person in Malta or even overseas emerges.
