The objective of this project was to research the commitment towards the work force of young people in the 15 to 30 age group residing at Gozo. A number of factors have been examined through this research that determine this type of commitment. The results were achieved by means of questionnaires, informal discussions and by the conduction of structural interviews. Substantial findings of this research indicate that work is an essential element that forms these people's lives and that they have high occupational desires. Work was viewed in terms of finance to which they are entirely committed. Analysis also revealed that these young people give prominence to their studies in order to achieve an established job. It has also resulted that factory employees have negative views to the concept of work. This concept was defined as a means of earning a living through hard labour. These findings have given me a more realistic view of the world of work through which I have established a number of contributing factors to the commitment that young people have towards this sector; factors which enabled me to further investigate this concept in my involvement in the coordination of vocational programmes. The results of this research have also helped in the development and implementation of these same programmes.en_GB
