Abstract: This research seeks to evaluate fire awareness in different categories of hotels in Malta. It also strives to find out which safety measures are being adopted in these hotels, and to analyse these safety measures. This study also seeks to evaluate materials used in various hotels, to analyse escape routes and fire assembly points and to assess fire equipment utilised in the hotel. Employer and employee knowledge of fire awareness in the case of fire and sufficient measures adopted to withhold the spread of fire is also investigated in this study. This is done by means of interviews and questionnaires. This research is intended to stress the responsibility of the employers and their dependants to abide with occupational health and safety legislation regarding fire safety in the hotel industry. This study also compares and contrasts fire awareness measures taking place in a three star, a four star and a five star hotel.
