The effects of agriculture on global warming and climate change

Abstract

The aim of my thesis was to observe closely the situation regarding climate change. Through text books as well as current and past media reports in this study the current situation has been observed and how opinions and theories have changed over the past decade in regards to both climate change and agricultural practices. As a result of studies carried out for this project, the general perception of the public can be virtually divided into in regards to their opinions surrounding climate change and unsustainable agricultural practices. This should pay homage to the fact that the general public are not receiving enough information about this highly debated topic and that from statements made by individuals whom were interviewed the information sustained and the way in which it is perceived is simply misguided and often incorrect; in regards to both statistics and general facts. A member of the current Maltese political party was also interviewed, in order to understand their opinions regarding climate change, the image which they are portraying to the general public and the action which is being taken to lessen the impact of climate change as well as preparing the country for possible side effects of climate change. Overall they portrayed a conservative side towards climate change taking similar precautions as abroad by focusing more so on emissions from cars and general household waste disposal than agricultural waste including emissions.
