Youth work within the local council

Abstract

This research aims to inquire into the newly established local councils in Malta and discuss whether or not the councillors in charge of youth affairs are either planning and organising the necessary activities and services, and/or ensuring that the already established youth clubs and organisations in their locality are fulfilling their obligations. Eight councillors, in charge of youth affairs, from different local councils have been contacted in connection with this process of data collection. An analysis of all interviews held is included in the project. The two main documents which regard this comparative study are the Local Councils Act and the National Youth Policy. The provisions within both documents and any links established between the two are discussed fully. The research concludes with a list of recommendations backed up by relevant theory.
