Youth in Malta and Gozo : a social aspect

Abstract

This study aims at focusing on the youth's attitudes in Malta and Gozo. In a way it is a comparative study about youth in the sister islands; about ways of life which are common, and about differences and attitudes. But on the other hand, we wanted to give priority to what youth think and to what they have to say about their social behaviour. We wanted to probe into what young persons think about certain issues and whether society is fulfilling their needs and aspirations. The Social Aspects relating to our areas of study are the main arteries of our social environment. These include Religion, Sex, Entertainment, Family and Human Relations, and General Information, whose impact and influences are the result of youth's social and moral development in to-day's world. We tried to question not only what they think, but also what they do and why. Is it because everyone does that or because I believe that this is what I have to do? Society is made up of many individuals so besides our case studies we tried to contact as many people as possible and from different walks of life. There are also opinions and excerpts from studies done by experts and voluntary youth leaders. A questionnaire was distributed to two hundred and eighty persons and the results throw light on the attitudes of youth and their moral and social behaviour in Malta and Gozo. We also made our suggestions and recommendations regarding what we found out in our study.
