Abstract: The aim of this study is to provide a critical assessment of the parenting skills courses organised by "Dar Bina" with a special emphasis on gender issues related to parenting. The inner harbour area is considered an area with multiple social problems. To tackle these problems more effectively the S.W.D.P. (Social welfare development program) opened a branch in this particular area to deal specifically with the social problems of this region. After taking into consideration many factors, like population, welfare, and also the premises available the choice fell on Cospicua the largest of the three cities known as Cottonera. During 1995 "Dar Bina" 24/25 Nelson Street Cospicua was officially opened. This is a special community development unit which offers social services facilities specifically to the residents of Cospicua. This pilot project achieved a considerable measure of success so much so that S.W.D.P. decided to open another center in order it to extend these services to the other two cities Senglea, Vittoriosa and the suburb of Kalkara. This new center which forms part of a one-stop shop of social welfare services known as Cottonera Community Resource Center (C.C.R.C.) was officially inaugurated this year.
