Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate Gozitan young peoples' perceptions of work, free time and leisure. This research formed part of a major project organized by the Programme of Youth Studies (University of Malta), with the collaboration of the OASI Foundation, Gozo. The conclusions brought forth by my study are based on the response of a group of 105 youngsters, subject to a questionnaire, informal discussions and interviews regarding work, free time and leisure. Work is likely to be seen as a money resource, a means to earn a living. It is associated with 'dignity' and 'satisfaction' but sometimes related to 'worries' and 'stress'. Professional/White collar employment is the trendiest type of job respectively followed by the unskilled and skilled employment. Meanwhile, the majority considers free time and leisure as time dedicated to enjoyable activities. Besides, it came out that, free time is likely spent indoors, mainly watching TV, while leisure time is practiced outside home in the company of the peer group. Moreover, many of these youngsters seem satisfied with Gozo's provision of work and leisure. But sometimes, some feel limited because they are furnished with a low variety of jobs and leisure complexes. Ultimately, the young Gozitans seek ALTERNATIVES and they are of the idea that someone has to provide such alternatives. In fact this study finishes with a discussion for the provision of such alternatives.
