This study examines whether males in the Maltese public service are aware of parental leave, what entitlement to parental leave means, and whether men are availing and making use of such leave. It reviews how males can increase their share in child-care and be more supportive in child rearing. Malta's family-friendly measures in the public service are reviewed through government circulars. The quantitative and qualitative data obtained from the research of this long essay reveals that one common factor that discourages males from availing themselves of parental leave is loss of income. Thus, effective public awareness and introducing financial benefits in respect of parental leave option, may incentivise employed parents, particularly males, to avail themselves of the parental leave option.en_GB
