The School of Performing Arts at the University of Malta has this past year been working on the setting up of 3 research centres, on the themes of Performance and Culture, Twenty-first Century Studies in Performance, and Performing Arts Histories and Historiographies. These groupings support SPA activity by creating bridges between specialized expertise and interdisciplinary research, while also offering possibilities to create networks and collaborations with entities beyond the School and the University of Malta. In fact, within each centre scholars and practitioners from the Departments of Theatre, Dance, and Music are joined by University colleagues from Digital Arts, Cognitive Science, the Faculty of Arts, Archive Sciences, and Intelligent Computer Systems. Links with international universities are already in place, evidencing the School’s commitment to look beyond conventional borders by establishing productive research links with a wide range of institutions.
The SPA research centres will be launched officially on 2 December at the Valletta Campus. The Event will start at 0900hrs and will be moderated by Dr Carmen Sammut, Pro-Rector for Students & Staff Affairs and Outreach. During the Launch, SPA research centres will present their profiles, affiliations, and future plans.
The event is free, but please reserve a seat by emailing SPA Area Director of Research Dr Stefan Aquilina on stefan.aquilina@um.edu.mt. Questions related to the event or any other aspect of research carried out at the School of Performing Arts of the University of Malta can be emailed to the same address.
