The University of Malta Ġ.F. Abela Junior College Academic Programmes 2018/2019 were launched by the Minister for Education and Employment, the Hon. Evarist Bartolo, and Mr Paul Xuereb, Principal, Junior College.
The Junior College forms an integral part of the University of Malta. It offers a unique learning experience to students, bridging the gap between secondary and higher education.
A presentation to members of the media included an overview of the Junior College and the facilities it offers students, the upcoming Open Day, and information about the academic programmes.
The following programmes of studies are available for the next academic year:
Matriculation programme
Students may choose any combination of subjects in accordance with MATSEC Regulations.
Special programme for national team athletes
A special programme aimed at assisting national team athletes to train while following the Matriculation Programme. Enrolled student athletes will have numerous advantages to assist them in their training, mainly, subject to availability, the timetables will be scheduled between 0.900 and 15.00hrs (and on a Wednesday until 14.00hrs) and use of all sports facilities at Junior College.
Special programme for Medicine, Health Care and Science-oriented students
This one-year programme is ideal for students who have already completed their two-year Matriculation course, and are aiming at improving their grades to meet the necessary entry requirement for Medicine and Surgery, Health Care or Science courses offered at the University of Malta. The programme is tailor-made to help enrolled students improve their scientific and practical skills and their analytical thought process in view of any university course requiring Biology and Chemistry at Advanced Matriculation.
Evening practical courses
Two separate courses in Biology and Chemistry aimed at students who would like to study the subjects at Advanced level but have no access to laboratory facilities.
More information about the new programmes will be provided during the College’s annual Next Stop … Junior College – Open Day on Friday 2 March. On the day Junior College will open its doors to the public between 17:30 and 21:00.
The public is invited to visit the facilities and speak to lecturers. A meeting for parents with the Principal will be held in the Auditorium at 18:30.
