The Institute of Digital Games Organises MSIDA - The Institute of Digital Games will offer hands-on experience with game-based learning technologies and computational tools developed for primary and secondary educators under the eCrisis project. The seminar on 6th March at 17h00 is part of the three-year eCrisis project that uses playful and game-based learning to address the problem of the increasing number of European citizens that are culturally, socially, and educationally excluded.
The Hon. Evarist Bartolo, Minister of Education and Employment and Prof. Alfred Vella, Rector of the University of Malta will open this seminar where game design, game-based education, and pedagogy experts will present the eCrisis Guidebook and provide an overview of game-based activities that can be implemented in educational settings. The event will also introduce the educators to the principles of game-based soft skill training, creative thinking and reflective debate for use in the classroom.
'We have learned a lot,' said Ulrike Lunacek, MEP - Vice-President of the European Parliament, speaking about the eCrisis project. 'And we have learned that through games we can achieve true understanding in a very innovative and playful manner, so the relevance of this objective cannot be underestimated.'
The eCrisis project is itself run by a cross-cultural European partnership led by the University of Malta, and supported by the Ellinogermaniki Agogi (Greece), the National Technical University of Athens (Greece), the University of Vienna (Austria), and St Ignatius College (Malta).
At the seminar guests will also have the opportunity to try out the games that form the basis of the project and connect with the researchers. The Institute of Digital Games welcomes educators in particular to attend as there will be the opportunity to collaborate over the coming 1.5 years.
