The Department of Nursing within the Faculty of Health Sciences will be organising a seminar on the use of simulation in teaching and learning in the health and social care sectors. The seminar is part of an Erasmus+ Project, i-SPAD, which the Department of Nursing is leading across ten EU university partners. Dr Roberta Sammut, Mr Justin-lee Mifsud and Dr Maria Cassar, all from the Department of Nursing, are the project leaders.
The i-SPAD project seeks to develop capacity in using simulation teaching in nurse education. The outputs of the project, which will be completed in 2019 include the development of a training programme for educators in simulation teaching and the development of a kit of simulation resources, NURSkit, which may be used along the course of pre-registration programmes.
A short presentation about the ISPAD project will be followed by two guest speakers who hold expertise and experience in simulation teaching locally and international context. These speakers are Dr Stephen Sciberras, Consultant Anaesthetist, Senior Lecturer, Postgraduate training centre, Mater Dei Hospital who will talk about “The Use of Simulation in Medical Teaching in the Context of Malta”, and Ms Tina Holmes, Program Director Simulation and Research, Ingham Institute Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, UNSW Sydney, who will talk about the “ Development and Sustainability of Simulation Teaching in Health and Social Care Education: Scope and Challenges”. A discussion across the invited panel and the audience will pursue.
The event will be held on 6 April from 09:00 to 12:00 noon at Erin Serracino Inglott Hall, Lecture Theatre 1, University of Malta, Msida Campus.
Interested persons are invited to register by contacting Ms Miriam Avellino on +356 2340 1859 or by sending an email. The number of attendees is limited to venue capacity.
