Event: Master of Arts in Film Studies - Student Short Films 2022
Date: Sunday 19 June
Time: 18:00
Venue: The Malta Experience, Valletta
The University of Malta's Faculty of Arts is proud to announce the premiere screening of Darb'oħra and White Roses, two short films made by the M.A. in Film Studies students. The films will be screened at ‘The Malta Experience’ on Sunday 19 June 2022, at 18:00. The films will be preceded by short presentations from the students and their mentors.
After last year's very fruitful collaboration, the course is pleased to welcome back the internationally-renowned film professionals Hana Jusic and Martijn Smits, who are currently on set overseeing the production and shooting of the two short films. The scripts were developed by the students themselves while following intensive units on scriptwriting offered by the internationally renowned script consultants Françoise von Roy and Franz Rodenkirchen.
Darb'oħra
Ben, a young boy with a keen and curious mind, stumbles upon a charming little toyshop in the heart of a Maltese village. Intrigued by its potential mysteries, he wanders in. Among the mechanical treasures and skilled woodwork lying inside, Ben’s attention lingers on a mysterious hidden object on one of the shelves. Overwhelmed by his curiosity, he discovers something he could never have imagined, that will take him on a journey into the captivating mysteries of Time and Space.
White Roses
Samantha and Paul have a seemingly perfect life to the outside world, except for the one thing that is missing in their relationship. As the mask starts to slip, will they fall apart or find the strength to go on? Four friends, a dinner party, an unfulfilled need.
The Master of Arts in Film Studies course combines Film Studies' theoretical aspects with a practical component during which the students collectively plan and shoot short films, developing them from the scriptwriting to the postproduction stages. In order to help the students reach their full potential and to abide by the tight schedules which such projects demand, internationally acclaimed directors who are active in the European film industry are invited to act as mentors. The course is sponsored by the Malta Film Commission.
