Abstract:
Poverty and social exclusion are structural problems in our societies; problems exacerbated by the effects of the Covid19 pandemic. Most European countries have articulated socio-educational programmes to tackle this social problem - the minimum income programmes or means-tested programmes. Though important, these programmes have some problems and limitations due to their own nature.
This lecture will highlight those limitations regarding the capacity to alleviate poverty and their implications for education. Finally, Prof. Rodr铆guez-Fern谩ndez will discuss the potentialities and controversies of a radical alternative - The Universal Basic Income.
